Keep walking

Some days I just don’t want to go walking.

Some days I can’t wait to go walking.

But when I meet the fresh air and leave the confines of that study chair, I don’t know why I don’t go more often!

In Fall of 2021 I started going for quick walks at a wildlife sanctuary about 5 minutes from where I live. Besides working inside (though not sitting) I’ve been studying, (which involves a lot of sitting!) and the more I’ve been studying the more I’ve noticed the benefits of movement.

Why I didn’t do it before?

I don’t know.

Most of the walks I’ve taken there have been cold so I’m looking forward to warmer spring morning walks instead the cold winter afternoon walks. I found a perfect spot to watch the sunrise someday!

As I’ve made walking a habit, I’ve noticed a difference in a couple things physically and mentally:

Physically, I have better circulation and I don’t get cold as often.

Mentally, I don’t have the cabin fever I had other winters.

Just 30-60min., 1-2x per week is sometimes all I have time for. It’s been worthwhile anyway!

I’ve always excused myself going out for a walk or a jog because I don’t like to do it out on the road. Or even a paved path at a little park close to me. But since discovering the wonder of walking in the wooded trails, away from prying eyes and vehicle fumes, it’s almost become a necessity as well as a blessing for my body and soul.

I hope you find a place that works for you!
